Formation
|
Formal Formation in the Anglican Order of Preachers is a three year process.
After a time of inquiry and conversation Aspirants are allowed to apply to formally enter the Formation with the Anglican Order of Preachers. All learning is online through ZOOM or other formats. All Postulants, lay and ordained, go through the same program of formation. Year One – Postulancy Postlancy studies involves a deep dive into the life of St. Dominic and the Order as he founded it. It is about learning what makes the Dominican charism unique and learning to understand oneself as potentially sharing/owning that identity. There are two vowed members of the Order who lead a cohort that starts in the fall each year of those earnestly seeking to discern if this way of life is for them. After the Postulancy year is successfully completed, and with the assent of the Formation team and the Postulant, the Postulant can apply to enter the Novitiate. By making Novice Promises and receiving the habit (which for a Novice is the white alb, black cincture and capuce.) a Novice begins to live the Rule of Life and is integrated with the community through the structure of small groups we call Houses/Priories. |
Years Two & Three – Novitiate
The Novitiate is also a time of discernment. Formation in prayer and identity continue as the Novice completes two years of academic training in addition to integration in the House. Each term has a lead teacher and secondary teacher who work together to form Novices through consideration of a variety of topics. Novice Year One, Term One (Sept-Dec) Introduction to the Arc of the Scriptures Novice Year One, Term Two (Jan-May) Theology for Preaching Novice Year Two, Term One (Sept - Dec) Preaching Novice Year Two, Term Two (Jan-May) Evangelism After the successful completion of the Novitiate, with assent from the Formation Team and Novice, the Novice may apply to make their Life Profession of Vows. |
After Life Profession…..
The expectation of the Anglican Order of Preachers is that after Life Profession of Vows we all remain eager to learn more, grow spiritually and continue to be formed for the service of Christ in the Church. Continuing education opportunities and self-motivated and directed learning are life long companions of the Vowed Religious in our Order.
